The University of Kansas (commonly referred to as KU for short) Jayhawks had three football players taken in the 2010 NFL. The three men from the college located in Lawrence, Kansas selected in the 2010 NFL Draft held in April of 2010 are as follows:

Darrell Stuckey is a safety who earned first team All-Big 12 recognition for his efforts at the position. As one of the top safeties in the draft the 5'11'" 205 pound athlete from Kansas City, Kansas was taken in the fourth round by the San Diego Chargers with the 110th overall pick.

The next University of Kansas player to come off the board was Kerry Meier. Kerry Meier is a 6'2" 224 pound player from Pittsburgh, Kansas who was a highly touted all-state quarterback at Pittsburgh High School. KU Head coach Mark Mangino eventually converted Meier to the wide receiver position even after an impressive 2006 campaign where Kerry threw for a freshmen team record 13 touchdowns.

Coach Mangino elected to award the starting quarterback job to rising star Todd Reesing prior to the 2007 season. The position change ultimately proved to be in the best long term football career interest for Meier when he was chosen by the Atlanta Falcons in the 5th round of the 2010 NFL Draft with the 165th overall pick for his receiving abilities.

Fellow wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe was taken in the next round after Kerry Meier went. Briscoe, from Dallas, Texas, was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 191st overall pick in the 6th round. The 2009 first team All-Big 12 receiver had hoped to go sooner in the draft but is still thankful that he will have an opportunity to prove himself with a National Football League (NFL) organization.

The University of Kansas is typically primarily considered to be a basketball school. The tradition of basketball excellence dates back to the nineteenth century (1898) when James Naismith, the inventor of the game of basketball, served as the first head basketball coach at the school.

Despite playing in the football centric Big 12 Conference the University of Kansas has slowly made a name for themselves in the realm of college football. The KU football program has actually won five of its last six bowl games including a memorable 24-21 2007 Orange Bowl victory over number five ranked Virginia Tech.

For the University of Kansas Jayhawks to have three players selected in the 2010 NFL Draft is a major step in the right direction for an organization that had zero players taken in the 2009 NFL Draft.
